My birth certificate reads Shana Dawn Indra Lewis. My mum would call me Shana Dawn on occasion, but my Aunt Fern calls me it often. So last week when she had written it in a message to a family WhatsApp group, (I had said something cheeky, so full name was used) I looked at it and thought, I’m putting the “Dawn” back into my name!
At this point I was already in full swing with my intentions for 2020 regarding my personal, my business and most importantly my spiritual life, these are not really separate, but they are separate if you know what I mean…
Let’s leave that for another post, but this would be the icing on the cake.
Although I know the meaning of my name, I got to reading a bit deeper on it and went as far as looking up why God did some name changes in the bible.
Searching Google, I came across this quote from Heather Adams: “Later on, I began to notice accounts in both the Old and New Testaments, where God changed someone’s given name. What, I wondered, would lead God to take this drastic step? I found that in each case, God wanted to instill a new vision for that person’s life, or a new role He wanted them to play in His Kingdom.”
Ok so I’m just giving new-birth to my already given name… It wasn’t my first name but why have a name like this and not use it!
DAWN:
The noun dawn refers to the first light of day, or the first time period, like the dawn of a new era, which occurs when a new president takes office. Not just the beginning of a day, the noun dawn can refer to any beginning, like the dawn of the Internet era.
-the first appearance of light in the sky before sunrise.
-(of a day) begin
-the beginning of a phenomenon or period of time, especially one considered favourable.
-become evident to the mind; be perceived or understood.
2020 my New Beginning
There’s so much in a name!
“At one point I was down on myself over it but no more… I shall embrace who I am and pat myself on the back for coming this far as it’s not been an easy time but I’m still here to tell the tale.“
I live with two life threatening and life changing health conditions one called Hydrocephalus (a build-up of fluid on the brain) and another called Chiari Malformation type1- where the base of my brain protrudes into the top part of my spinal passage. As a result of these brain injuries, I have had six brain operations the last one was July 25th 2020.
I have two mechanisms, called shunts, one sits either side on the inside of my brain. These pump fluid from my brain daily, keeping me alive. I had to learn how to walk, talk and use my hands again properly. I still live in pain daily; I also have other health issues that try and disrupt my daily living… However I do not allow these to hinder me in anyway, as I set my sight on achieving some specific goals in life. I know my faith in Christ Jesus is the under pinning and the driving force behind ALL I have accomplished and I feel honoured that God would use me to tell this amazing and at times jaw dropping story.
